CALLED TO COME TO THE RESCUE OF ANOTHER BABY ELEPHANT

Title

Once again BHAPU was called to assist in the rescue of another young female elephant calf, who had got herself stuck in the mud.

This is one of the hazards of the really hot weather setting in and the retreating lake level – exposing many areas of very inviting (to elephants), yet hazardous, mud!

Seen here is a brief video clip of the rescue in progress. Once again a very protective mother had to be immobilised in order to extract the calf. The heart rending bellows from the calf are heard, calling for her mother before she was successfully pulled out of the mud, weakened but strong enough to stand. Her mother was then reversed, and they both wandered off together back into the bush, hopefully a little wiser about the hazards of mud wallows?!

Once again we extend grateful thanks to members from PWLMA, ZNA, BHAPU, Ume Croc Farm (Ian Buckle), HHK Safaris (Jordan Bryant) and the local fishermen who first reported the stuck calf.
